2012 - Apocalyptic Ale

Some say the world will end in 2012, but we are just beginning our journey. Solid Gold in color with a creamy white head this strong ale is deceptively mellow. Sweet malt flavors mingle with spicy flavors of the yeast and citrus character of the hops, producing a complex brew that is highly drinkable and refreshing.

Ashburner Dunkel Lager

This unfiltered dark amber lager has sweet caramel body with a touch of roastiness. The noble hops Halertau and Saaz give this sessionable brew spicy finish.

Cherry Bourbon

Belgian-Style Dubbel aged with Red Tart Cherries in a Bourbon cask.

Dubbel Trubbel

A fusion of our dubbel mixed with a bourbon aged cherry dubbel.

Full Steam Ahead

Brewed in the California Common Style, this light amber brew has the unique flavors of a warm fermented lager and a new hop variety.

In the 19th century, California brewers were unable to control fermentation temperatures so they were obliged to use their lager yeast at temperatures warmer than customary for traditional lager.

We used a new hop variety from the state of Oregon for bittering, flavor and aroma in this beer. Very few brewers have had a chance to try out Meridian. We are excited by the opportunity.

Helles and Back

A golden lager in the traditional Munich brewing style. This is what you find on tap in Bavaria instead of a Pilsener. With more malt character and less hop bitterness than a pilsener. Our unfiltered Helles was brewed with traditional Bohemian malt and German Noble hops.

Holy Brew Brown

A Sweet brown ale with a spicy finish brewed with Pilsner, Caramel malts, as well Belgian Candi Sugar. The traditional ingredient of Belgian- Style beers, Candi Sugar add complexity to the sweet finish.

Holy Brew Honey Blonde

This refreshing golden ale has subtle hints of honey with a touch of malted wheat and oats. This brew has a sweet mouthfeel but with a crisp finish.

Icebreaker

This brew is a tribute to all who brave the amazing "First Runs" of the white water season. The biggest whitewater of the season is featured in Early Spring,making the opening whitewater weekend a thrilling ride to all who seekadventure. So for all those who seek a brew that fuses the powerful malt and hop flavors of this brew with the fierce white water surges of the river, you found it!

With double the malt and triple the hops, this ale, with its powerful flavor and rich color, soars over a standard IPA. Columbus and Amarillo hops provide the intense bitterness and aroma. Pale and Crystal malts contribute sweetness to the Citrusy hop attack.

My Imaginary Girlfriend

Star Date 2012.156 Brewer's Log - We intercepted the following alien transmission: My Imaginary Girlfriend is brewed with all the HOPS and fermented in your Mom's basement. Hop additions were determined by the skill of a 4th Level Mage and the flick of his 8-sided polyhedral die. Best enjoyed before or after your favorite role-playing game.

RhiNoel

In the tradition of Trappist monks of Belgium we have brewed a Dubbel for our holiday brew. Dubbels are sweet brown ales with a spicy finish. We brewed this beer with Pilsner and Caramel Malts, as well as dark Candi Sugar. Candi Sugar is a traditional ingredient in Belgian beers that adds complexity to the sweet finish. Fresh yeast was added to this beer before packaging for further conditioning in the bottle and keg. Bottle conditioned beers will improve with age as the beer continues to ferment in the bottle.

RhinO'Fest

With a full body, malty flavors, and a clean dry finish this amber lager is the perfect companion to Autumn's first chill.

Rye Wit

Our Rye Wit is an alternative take on a Belgian-Style wheat beer. Brewed with a combination of Barley, Wheat, and Rye and Spiced with Cardamom, Coriander, Fennel, and Anise.

Sweet Spot

Straight from our tanks to your glass. This golden unfiltered lager has soft yeast notes and spicy hop flavors.

Wandering Belgian

"Wandering Belgian" IPA is collaborative beer brewed at Lost Rhino by DC Homebrewers Josh Hubner and Mike Stein. It rings in over 6% ABV and over 60 IBUs. The beer has a bouquet of Belgian yeast-derived flavors like bubblegum, fruit ester, and subtle spice. Late kettle additions of Hallertau and Columbus hops create a lasting herbal complexity. Cascade and Saaz hops were used in the hopback, and Cascade was used to dry hop. Belgian amber candi sugar provides a touch of color and contributes to its long, dry, finish. This golden hop- forward ale is surprisingly smooth and is sure to please brewmasters and homebrewers alike.

Wild Farmwell Wheat Unfiltered

Jasper Akerboom and Peter Lee are both scientists at Howard Hughes' Janelia Farm, located in Ashburn. Taking a scientific approach towards brewing (Jasper has a PhD in microbiology and food technology, Peter has worked in large-scale process and discovery chemistry in industry), they wanted to focus on beers brewed with locally isolated yeasts. Jasper isolated several interesting strains and brewed small-scale test batches. After meeting Lost Rhino brewmaster Favio Garcia, they knew they shared the same passion for locally crafted beer using local ingredients, including local yeast. The idea for a summer beer using local yeast was born. They teamed up and designed a hoppy wheat beer for summer: Wild Farmwell Wheat. Farmwell is the old name for Ashburn where we isolated the strain.

Woody Stout

Roasted malts and herbal hops provide an aroma of coffee and spicy chocolate that blends with caramel, and vanilla notes that are products of the aging in the Bourbon soaked oak barrels.

Zlaty Pilsner

Zlatý Rhino is an American interpretation of a classic Bohemian-style Pilsner, which takes its name from the Czech word for "Golden". Brewed with imported floor-malted Bohemian spring barley (the Tolar and Bojos varieties) and 100% Czech Saaz hops, this beer brings a balance of malty sweetness and delicate bitterness, thanks to the use of a painstaking decoction mash schedule and long kettle boil. Modeled after the beer that won first prize in the inaugural Pilsner Urquell Master Homebrewer competition in Washington, DC in 2011, this is an easy- drinking beer for the warmer days ahead. As the Czechs say, "Na zdraví!"
